hillmer_smlOpening: Professor Fred Hilmer has been President and Vice-Chancellor of UNSW since mid-2006, following a distinguished career in academia, business and public life. A former Dean of the University’s Australian Graduate School of Management, Prof Hilmer spent seven years as Chief Executive Officer of John Fairfax Holdings Limited.

 

brien_holden_smlLecture 1: ‘The world of vision correction and its challenges’, will be delivered by the CEO of the Institute for Eye Research, International Centre for Eyecare Education (ICEE) and Vision Cooperative Research Centre (Vision CRC), Professor Brien Holden OAM, a world leader in eye health and vision correction research, education and public health.

 

earl_smith_smlLecture 2: ‘Myopia’, will be presented by Professor Earl Smith III, who has been reshaping the way we think about our eyes, particularly our understanding of myopia, for most of his career.

 

frank_smlLecture 3: ‘The business of vision correction’ is to be given by Global Head of Research & Development for CIBA VISION, Dr Franck Leveiller, who has more than 17 years of R&D experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

 

ms_sylvie_franz_smlLecture 4: ‘The challenge of delivering truly breakthrough products’ will be delivered by Ms Sylvie Franz, Chief Executive Officer of Adventus Technology Australia Ltd. She has over 20 years of clinical research and ophthalmic experience.

 

mark_willcox_smlLecture 5: ‘Vision research and the fight against infection’ will be delivered by internationally renowned ocular inflammation and microbiology researcher, Professor Mark Willcox.

 

jian_ge_smlLecture 6: ‘Perspectives on Basic Eye Research in China’, is to be presented by Professor Jian Ge, the director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Centre. Professor Ge leads a team of ophthalmologists and optometrists who provide affordable, accessible and accountable services to nearly half a million outpatients and perform 30 000 surgeries a year.

nag_rao_smlLecture 7: ‘Vision 2020 and avoidable blindness’, will be given by eye health solutions entrepreneur Professor Gullapalli (Nag) Rao. Professor Rao is widely respected for the creation of sustainable, high quality, comprehensive eye care delivery and as the father of the vision centre model which is transforming vision care across India and inspiring development worldwide.

 

dr_frick_smlLecture 8: ‘Economic impact of refractive error’, will be delivered by internationally respected health economist, Professor Kevin Frick.

 

kovin_naidoo_smlLecture 9: ‘Meeting the challenges of providing global eye care,’ is to be presented by international public health leader, Professor Kovin Naidoo.

 

hugh_taylor_smlLecture 10: ‘Reaching the underserved: Aboriginal eye care’, will be given by Professor Hugh Taylor AC. Professor Taylor has been dedicated to ophthalmic research and teaching for over 30 years, with his current work focused on Aboriginal eye health and trachoma.
